Rock-face Path and Hammetschwand Lift (Bürgenstock Resort)

The Rock-face Path in the Bürgenstock Resort offers mesmerising views of Lake Lucerne and beyond to the Swiss Mittelland region. Carved out of the cliffs using dynamite, the path leads to the base terminus of the Hammetschwand Lift. At an altitude of 1132 m, the latter is Europe's tallest free-standing outdoor lift. Inaugurated 105 years ago, it has fascinated generations of visitors. It travels its 152 metres in less than a minute.

With a track 944 m in length, it climbs 440 m to link Kehrsiten on Lake Lucerne with the Bürgenstock Resort. The whole of the resort is undergoing a major refurbishment at this time. The railway is renovated and reopened at the same time as the Bürgenstock Resort (August 2017).
